Amy Jobes is a contemporary landscape painter based in North Devon. She is inspired by the huge skies and massive expanses of the local beaches in North Devon, evoking feelings of connection with both our delicate and beautiful natural world. The sense of space allows for exploration of the mysterious aspects of our higher consciousness.
Emotions recalled by these experiences allow each painting to be created from the heart and filled with soul. Each image is an authentic celebration of the joy experienced when we connect with nature and ourselves. You will be guided in your exploration of the landscape by Amy who has vast experience as a teacher and mentor at the VAA, as well as being a professional artist working from her studio in Braunton.
All materials are provided on this course

Art & The Great Outdoors
Watercolour Sketching / Pen & Wash
with Podi Lawrence 2025
Tuesday 15th July (18:00) - Friday 18th July (16.30)
£695pp (locals & non-painting partners welcome at a reduced fee)

Podi Lawrence has been an artist since childhood. Having lived and worked in Canada and Panama, she is now based in Portland Dorset.
Podi has made a name for herself as a portrait artist, and her landscapes have been collected far and wide. Artist Residencies include the annual Waterloo Jazz Festival for 10 years, the KW-Symphony Orchestra and The National Ballet where she completed 100's of sketches and 10 large oil paintings.
Podi always returns to landscapes to relax after the pressure of a portrait commission. Having qualified as an adult education teacher, she is passionate about dispelling the mystery of painting and drawing. She firmly believes that sitting down and taking the time to look, there is no need to go to art school, or paint repeatedly from photographs.
The beautiful scenery that surrounds us is a constant source of inspiration and interest when creating - an Art Retreat Devon with Podi will enable you to learn the magic of looking.
She will give you handy hints about colour mixing, and the tricks that enable you to translate what you see onto the paper.
You will find 'the world' in the space in front of you.
Gifted a sketchbook with the brushes/paints/pens required (you may want to add to this by bringing some paints of your own) you will be encouraged to treat your sketchbook like a diary - a diary of pictures that can be continued at home. You will have all the resources to spend 5 minutes each day just looking ...
Sketching and painting with Podi will be relaxing, therapeutic, and educating.

Art & The Great Outdoors Coastal Oils Art Retreat
with Rodney Kingston 2026
Tuesday 5th May (6pm start) - Friday 8th May (finish 4.30pm)
£795pp including materials (locals & non-painting partners welcome at a reduced fee)

Rodney Kingston is a fine artist working in oils, inspired by the beauty of the everyday. Painting directly from life whenever possible, he draws from a wide range of subjects – from London landmarks and the River Thames near his home in Staines, to football fans heading to a match, and even unexpected scenes like a simple set of traffic lights, captured through an artist’s eye for composition.
Alongside landscapes, Rodney has a deep love for painting portraits and still life subjects, often choosing familiar, everyday objects such as Marmite jars, jam jars, and other familiar household items. His work is driven by a desire to celebrate the ordinary and create meaningful connections through art.
Rodney also shares his passion for oil painting through demonstrations and workshops. His upcoming painting retreat, hosted by Lone Pine Retreats, offers a chance to slow down, connect with the north Devon landscape, and explore the richness of painting in oils.
Join Rodney for an inspiring, relaxed retreat where you’ll discover new ways to see – and express – the everyday through your art.

Susan is a land and seascape artist who takes her inspiration from the West Country, Cumbria and the Chilterns. Her paintings are worked up from small sketches or studies made insitu or she paints directly on large boards on the beach or in the landscape.
Susan welcomes artists keen to participate with the aim to sketch the local land and seascapes in any medium of their choice, taking time to really "look" and connect with area. This will build up a visual diary.
Using these sketches, and notes made regarding colours, weather conditions and emotions felt during the process, we will work up larger acrylic paintings in the studio.
Demonstrations will be given throughout plus friendly advice and you will be encouraged to develop your own personal style.

Jonathan Newey is an award-winning artist who lives and works in Reading. He comes from a strong artistic background and is believed to be a 4th generation artist. He works in a variety of mediums and subjects and has been teaching art courses in adult education for over 25 years, running courses and painting holidays on drawing and painting with watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil, and watercolour pencil.
“I want to run painting retreats in order to create a space where people can slow down, reconnect with their creativity, and experience the joy of painting in a supportive, inspiring environment.
Art has always been a powerful tool for self-expression and relaxation, and I believe that stepping away from daily routines to focus on painting can be deeply restorative.
By combining beautiful surroundings, shared artistic experiences, and gentle guidance, I hope to foster a sense of community and creative confidence.
My goal is to help others rediscover their artistic voice while enjoying a memorable and enriching retreat experience"

"I had a wonderful visit to Seaview Villa whilst attending one of there collaboration Coastal Art Retreats.
The hosts Claudine & David were very accommodating, making every effort to cater individually for our Vegan friend. We were lucky enough to be served with 3 course evening meals too which were ‘outstanding!’ They can cook!! and the tastes were sublime. The Villa is a short walk to the Harbour where there are so many interesting shops & vistas. Being a past hotelier myself, I would definately recommend Seaview Villa, Lone Pine Retreats and Claudine’s food. Absolutely Lovely - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

"I recently stayed at Seaview Villa as part of an art retreat hosted by Caudine and David, and I couldn't have felt more welcome. They both worked so hard to give us an amazing time. What I wasn't expecting was for the food to be so good, in fact stunning. Claudine cooked everything fresh, and it was not only delicious, but so creative and accommodated everyone's dietry needs.
The location is beautiful with diverse natural environments, from river walks to sandy and pebbly beaches, cliff trails and the valley of the rocks all within walking distance.
Lynmouth is a sweet little harbour town from which you can walk up the cliff, or get the funicular to Lynton.
I would stay here again. Loved it" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
